I’m taking a much-needed break from social media.

The evils of being on social media are documented widely on the web. True, if we are not careful, social media becomes an addiction. On the other hand, it has many benefits; connecting to people, building an audience and promoting yourself.

However, at present, I need to focus on a few areas of my life that need special attention — namely, my company which is undergoing a complete transformation and a book idea that has been floating around in my mind for a while.

There is a simple rule of life: Where your attention goes, energy flows.

I feel like I’m too busy ‘doing’ things, but, in reality, I’m allowing life to happen to me rather than the other way around. I fool myself into believing that I’m too busy doing important stuff that I don’t have the time to appreciate the here and now.

I run from one achievement to another, hardly remembering any of them. As soon as one goal is claimed, I immediately consign it to history and start looking for a new one.

I need to step back and see where my energy is needed most. I want to live the rest of my life as mindful as a Buddhist monk but without the robes, rituals and the isolation. I want to pay attention to every moment in my life, whether it be mundane or exhilarating.

I want to enjoy sunsets, without having the urge to rush and go post about it on Instagram. I want to truly experience the world first-hand. What you focus on is what becomes powerful.

I’ll be back by the start of the new year in 2020. Meanwhile.

I’ll keep sending my thoughts, quotes and book reviews through my weekly newsletter.

Thanks for your understanding and support.

I rise daily at 5 am, meditate, read and journal on my Self-awareness journey. Some of my reflections make it to my blog; others don’t. (http://mo-issa.com)
